Southtowns Surgery Center

Engineering services for a new $2.7 million, 16,700 sf ambulatory surgery center. The facility has four Class “C” operating rooms, pre-op and post-op areas, a recovery suite and waiting room. A small office suite was also included. The MEP/FP and medical gas systems were designed to the latest Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities.

Our work included:

  • Mechanical design included redundant HVAC systems with high efficiency boilers, cooling system and humidification. Mechanical systems are controlled and monitored locally and are also monitored off-site.
  • A new electrical distribution system was provided from the building’s main distribution panel to serve the surgery center. An 800 amp 480/277 volt three phase service was provided with multiple subpanels and step down transformer to serve load requirements.
  • Two rooftop mounted natural gas generators were provided for the surgery center. Emergency distribution was provided to separate life safety, critical and equipment standby loads per NFPA and NEC requirements for health care facilities and life safety/emergency systems.
  • All patient care and surgical areas were designed to meet NEC 517 requirements including wire methods, grounding and identification.
