The Cooperage at 55 Chicago St.

Buffalo’s historic E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company Building Complex, known for manufacturing wooden barrels, was comprised of three primary sections, which encircled a central courtyard. Through the years portions of the property deteriorated and needed to be demolished.

The $16 million project involves a three-story, 30,000 sf new build and a two-story, 25,000 sf mix of new build and renovation, to transform the property into an entertainment-focused destination. The Cooperage at 55 Chicago street is home to Buffalo’s Resurgence Brewing Company, a world class rock climbing facility, 10 market-rate apartments, and Hartman’s Distillery Co.

Resurgence Brewing Company’s new 25,000 sf facility features a two-story tap room and restaurant in the historic Pattern Building, banquet space and beer gardens. Central Rock Gym’s new 21,000 sf facility offers indoor rock climbing, fitness and yoga. The space has over 300 linear feet of bouldering walls up to 45 feet in height for beginners to advanced climbers, and kid specific climbing area. There is also a work-out and yoga area.
